action, end of february hanahaki event. suicidal ideation likely throughout
[This has no emotional weight whatsoever. Her reaction is resignation. A month ago, she would have lain down and let it happen. There is only one thing that makes her feel any differently now.]
[She does not want Lion to have to watch her die.]
[Even now, she doesn't know all the details of Lion's experience, of how they learned the truth. She has suspicions — that Bernkastel was involved, that it was excruciating, that it was grotesque and terrifying and would have broken a lesser person — and those are enough to make her stubbornly determined in her refusal to die in front of them. If she is going to die, it will be like a wild animal. She will sneak off into the woods, hide in a copse of trees, and wither away.]
[But . . . she is trying not to. She's trying. To be good. For them. To stay, for them.]
[Which is made more difficult when their prognosis begins to look just as bad as hers. They don't tell her right away, she doesn't know until it becomes obvious, but by then her own explosion of flowers is in a race with her housemate's. But they push themself to get up, to keep moving, when she would be content to lie down and die if they were not here.]
[Why? Is it because they are a whole person? And really — is it strength, or is it stubbornness? In some ways, Lion is as flawed as she is.]
. . . Don't.
[Her voice comes out thick, muffled, and hoarse. White petals stick out of her tongue like plumage, the creeping first sign of hemlock crawling up her throat. Hands weakly clutching at her knees have sprouted mourning bride (cw trypophobia, worm-like images); bramble explodes from her scalp like a crown, blood dripping from its thorns down her cheeks over faint trails sloppily wiped up already, down her neckline and over roses pink and white. Every spare patch of skin is growing, or will soon grow, plum blossom and deadly nightshade. She clutches at her skirts, wincing at the pressure it places on the mourning bride; but even sitting hurts, even breathing hurts, so none of it matters. She looks up wanly at Lion from the couch, a shadow of her normally bombastic self.]
Don't . . . tidy. Just come sit. Sit with me.
[Please.]
< ujimasa >
or whoever if its someone else
are you in ryslig
[ And nothing else follows. Sus! ]
<goldenthread>
Nogi-san?
I'm surprised you remembered my network address.
...I did arrive safely back, though, yes. What did you need?
< ujimasa >
yes
saved it
may i ask a favor
[ ughhhh it is killing her inside- but Lion is the best option ]
if i give you an address can you steal something
<goldenthread>
What.
No??
[ Reflex. But. Ughhhhh, she wouldn't ask if there wasn't a problem. And they promised to help. ]
Nevermind. What happened?
Did someone take your belongings while you were gone?
< ujimasa >
hhhhhh ]
no
ran out of pills
ill find someone else
<goldenthread>
No, you asked me, so I'm going to help.
Please don't misunderstand that.
I just need to know exactly what you're asking first, before I agree to something I'll regret like blind theft of some unknown person.
[ Some of us! Are clinging! To the tattered remnants of our morals for as long as we can! Okay!! ]
Pills. Like medication for an injury?
< ujimasa >
[ Rude???? Her morals are fine??? It's worth the extra effort to type properly. Downside: gives Lion more time to talk. ]
yes
ran out of methadone
<goldenthread>
[ -is what they lead with, because genuinely, what the fuck. They don't have the medical knowledge to know exactly what that is, but one doesn't grow up with an in-island doctor without learning enough to guess. ]
Painkillers for a *severe* injury, then.
I wish you'd just lead with that.
I'll see what I can find that's an equivalent.
How urgently do you need it, and where can I find you?
< ujimasa >
i said an address
[ bluh bluh i'm lion ushiromiya and i'm getting pedantic for no reason. In black and white morals, it is Right And Just to rob clinics that hike up the prices to fleece the poor.
Ugh, she'll deal with that in person. Next time, ask Niina. ]
immediately
but youll have issues getting anything similar
good luck
[ On one hand, it is genuinely wishing them good luck finding something. Who knows, maybe they'll pull off a miracle. On the other hand, there is no follow-up for a "where". Just a UJIMASA is now IDLE. after a few minutes. Couldn't even hang up on them properly. ]
<goldenthread> -> action pchooooo
It's a reasonable assumption to make.
For instance: I still need yours.
[ This, and many other increasingly less subtle pings for where to bloody find her happen over the course of the next hour or so. In between these exasperated jabs, they get to work.
The medicine cabinet Beatrice so carefully stocked for their oncoming transformation that never came is empty. Picked clean by Oskar, and he is blameless for the theft given the circumstances - hopefully it all went to other monsters who needed it sooner rather then later. But it leaves them in a bit of a pickle. He has no leads on anything of monster-level strength. The Lighthouse has some, but nothing in quantities beyond the usual "welcome to Ryslig, sorry for what's next" care packages. There's others they could ask, but figuring out who is still on the other side and who isn't would be an... ordeal.
The Lighthouse it is. And maybe they'll find a human clinic along the way that's sympathetic to monsters still. They have no doubt that the one they'd found prior has long since closed. ]
Did you know it's incredibly rude to ask for someone's help and then change your mind at the last possible moment?
Because it is.
It's rude, Nogi-san.
[ This is still a thing that is happening, by the way. ]
< ujimasa >
To her, it's just blinking. In practice... huh. That timestamp feels later than it should be. ]
sorrry
floras
[ Which means she actually has to get ready, huh. Impromptu visitors probably won't be let on the campus. Stupid. Stupid. The laptop gets shut.
And now Lion has another reason to be mad. ]
<goldenthread>
They'd almost smile, if the very thought didn't fill them with murderous rage. ]
Floras?
What's a Floras?
Nogi Wakaba, that is **NOT** a useful address! Do you know how big Bavan is??

<goldenthread>
I'm safely in Ryslig, yes.
I arrived back a few days ago.
Did you just get through, Gladion-san?
no subject
Good. Just checking in. Guess you're situated too.
Got through yesterday, slept for a while. All in one piece here.
no subject
Thankfully, my apartment here was still vacant despite how long it's been.
Though, now I have to replace everything that got thrown out in the meantime. Again.
[ It's more annoying then depressing at this point. ]
But, you too?
I didn't realize how exhausting all the surveillance was until being somewhere more familiar drained it out of me.
Though that answers what my next question would have been, I suppose.
[ "Slept for a while" implies he had somewhere to sleep. Though, he could've just passed out in a park somewhere....?? ]
no subject
except that he did but shhh. Lion seems to default to longform.]Next question? [actually he does not pick up the implication there.]
I'd been down in the caves so I think it was just physical exhaustion from the fog stuff. Had goblin powers for a while and I dropped right after they went away.
[that is not even remotely the extent of why he slept that hard for that long but it is way cooler-sounding than the truth.]
If you're at 38-8 and need another pair of hands to move any furniture in, you can shoot me a text.
no subject
...That makes more sense, if you were down there for a while.
Such changes are exhausting even when *not* drawn out to an annoying extent.
Especially anything with magic of some kind, for some reason.
I suppose it's not that surprising, but yes, that's where I am. Apartment 101, on the bottom floor.
[ 101, coincidentally, happens to be the one with the front wall that looks like a whole ass person got slammed through it, though the damage has long since been plastered and painted over by expert hands.
But they don't mention that part. If they continue to ignore the now-fixed hole, then it never happened. ]
I haven't started replacing anything quite yet, but I wouldn't say no to the help once I have. Thank you.
But the same goes for you- if you need any help, I'm more then happy to do what I can.
And the question, for the record, would have been "did you find somewhere to stay". Which it seems you did.
Normally there's a few helpful types from a charity called the Lighthouse that try to point newcomers in the right direction for such things, but I don't think they had the chance in that awful place.
no subject
I'm living with two other people so I'm probably set. Actually, knowing them, they'd probably be happy to lend a hand if I'm not around either. We're in 203. Have you met Ingo or Emmet?
[not to sign them up for something against their will but they're just
they're them. both of them, in different ways.]
no subject
Still. You never know when an extra person might come in handy for something, so please don't mind asking.
I'd rather help then find out later, you know?
Those names aren't familiar to me, so I can't say if we've met in passing or not, but I'll keep an eye out for them in future.
[ I'm glad you three have each other is typed, stared at, and summarily executed without sending. Regardless of how kind the sentiment is meant to be, that's no excuse to make their envy into someone else's problem. ]
no subject
They're twins so if you see one coming or going, you'll recognize the other. Both kind of eccentric but don't let it put you off.
<KrisKringle>
Anyway, buy or make her a gift by December 26, or Santa will come down your chimney and box your ears.
If you need more information, contact me C/O Hawkeye Pierce at Crowe Clinic, and I'll delegate him to tell you to do your own research.
a Nattensfest gift
Inside the parcel is...
An abundantly fluffy knit winter hat, with a tall shape that accommodates horse ears pretty nicely.
Also a small, nice-smelling wreath, formed by shaping the branches themselves rather than wiring them together. Nymph tricks!!!
Also also, a high-power, waterproof flashlight? No explanation is given.]
NATTENSFEST
Attached is a note that says;
Happy Nattensfest! A friend of mine signed me up for this so I'm giving it the best I've got. This thing is something I've been working on. Just devices for monsters to help with all the stuff being a monster makes harder.
The note ends... Abruptly. But for all its lack of grace the device is handsome, and perhaps may be of some use to Lion.]
